Nomads Sydney South Vice-Captain, Roy Kowarski (left) and Nomads Sydney North Vice-Captain, Kevin Decker hand over a cheque for $45,742 to Jet van Batenberg of the Cancer Council NSW after hosting their respective Charity Golf Days raising money for research into prostate cancer. Well done lads on your fantastic achievement!
Dear Nomads
I just thought i would touch base and let you know how I am going. I decided to use some of the scholarship funds you gave me towards my trip to WA for the Mandurah Open. The tournament started with 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday then 36 holes on Monday for those who made the cut. After practice rounds on both Thursday and Friday I was hitting it well and looked forward to a great week.
Round 1 on Saturday didn’t start as well as I had hoped with 4 bogies in the first 7 holes. I was able to grind out the day and finish with a 2 over par 73. The next day was very up and down. 5 birdies was matched with 5 bogies and a double to result in another 2 over par 73 to put me at 4 over for the tournament and 23rd Overall.
On the final day I was able to get some consistency rounds of Even Par in the morning and 1 over in the afternoon which took me to 5 over for the tournament and 16th Overall.
In the end I was pretty happy with my results and hopefully I can keep getting better and better. My next trip is to Queensland for the Kapperra Bowl and Queensland Amateur in October. I would just like to thank you all again for the help you have given me. I really appreciate it and hope to catch up with you all soon.
Thanks
Mitch Gannon

July 2015 Inductee - Toby Adams
Toby Adams receiving his Nomads gear after being inducted at Long Reef on 19th July 2015, by Nomads Sydney North Captain, Mark Howard-Browne.
Welcome, Toby to Nomads and remember you'll get out of Nomads what you put in! |
Toby, who was born and bred in country West Australia, is a keen cricketer
and AFL supporter (West Coast Eagles of course!). While he continues to play
cricket, his glory days are long behind him, although he has lived his cricketing dream vicariously through his best mate, Chris Rogers, for many many
years - and continues to do so as Bucky piles on the runs against the hapless
Poms!
He hasn't really applied him to golf until now and continues to battle with the dreaded "cricketer's slice" (a common problem he was once informed by a golf coach). In his professional life Toby works in urban research, and currently works for a property advisory and research firm called Charter Keck Kramer who have recently expanded into the Sydney market from Melbourne. Toby is married with a cheeky six year old girl and lives in Freshwater. His wife, Phoebe, is a e-commerce entrepreneur and it is assumed (wishful thinking?) that he will soon be able to retire to work on his golf swing full time. Toby said he was delighted to have joined the Nomads family and has thoroughly enjoyed his first few rounds and he looks forward to getting to know more of the membership base over the coming period. |

Jordan Zunic wins Fangshan Changyang China Amateur Golf Championship
We received this email from Jordan Zunic:
Hi Mark & Kit Hope you are both well. I hope the Nationals tournament was a success for you! I just thought I would let you know that my trip to China the other week was a great success. I played in the Fangshan Changyang China Amateur Golf Championship in Beijing and ended up winning the tournament with a birdie on the second playoff hole!! It was a bit of a role coaster week as I started the tournament with an 81 in some very windy conditions!! But I then shot a 73 and a 71 to be 5 shots behind going into the last round. Then on Sunday I shot a 4 under 68 (which was tied the lowest score of the tournament) to get into a playoff!! I am extremely happy with the result as it is my first international tournament win!! I have the following tournaments coming up in the next couple of weeks: - November 7-9: Federal Amateur Open at Federal GC in Canberra - November 13-16: NSW Open at Stonecutters Ridge I have attached a photo for you guys to have a look at. I just want to thank you and all the Nomads again for your continued support. I could not have achieved this without your help!! I hope to catch up with you soon. Kind Regards Jordan Zunic |
WELL DONE, JORDAN, FANTASTIC EFFORT
2014 Jack Newton Junior Golf Sponsorship Announced
Our secondary aim of Nomads is to promote junior golf development and in 2006 we formed an association with Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG).
Since then JNJG have been involved with our Charity Golf Day and continue to support us in raising funds for the less fortunate. In 2009, under Captain Chris Fichardt, the first of the Nomads Scholarships to Jack Newton Junior Golf was announced. On Sunday 27th April 2014, CEO Peter van Wegen was on hand to receive a cheque for $4,000 to assist two up-and-coming young golfers, Blake Windred and Mitch Gannon. |
APRIL 2014 INDUCTEES
At Riverside Oaks on Sunday 27th April, Captain, Mark Howard-Browne, welcomed 3 new members into our Club: Vincent Lombard, David Carrick and Neil Casalis.
Their induction forms reads as follows: Your induction into Nomads today, we trust, marks the start of a very enjoyable journey for you and your member club. As you will notice from the Nomads emblem and our creed below, our focus is not only on our own welfare but very much so on the welfare of others. Your acceptance of this certificate is also an acknowledgement of your commitment to abide by our constitution and to always conduct yourself with pride, honour and respect when representing our club. We trust that during your membership you will find a lot of pleasure and happiness and we wish you all the very best as a new Nomads Member. Expect to receive from any organisation only what you put into it, so we encourage you to actively involve yourself with your club and that you share in the responsibilities and objectives that we prescribe to as Australian Nomads. |
2014 ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION DUE
Our new Treasurer, Andrew Brown, has sent out the 2014 subscription notices. The annual subs remain unchanged at $150 and there is an early bird discount of $20 should you pay by 31 January 2014.
Your Committee decided at their last meeting in November that we would not include the amount levied by Warringah for the AGU handicap as our non-golf club members are paid up to 31 August 2014. It will now be incumbent on members to pay the Warringah Golf Club invoice when it arrives sometime in August. The subs revert to $150 from 1 February 2014 and these have to be paid by 31 March 2014. |
2013 Nomads / Allan Gray Charity Golf Day a raging success!
Mark Howard-Browne and his 2013 Charity Golf Day Committee are to be congratulated on their magnificent effort in raising $54,105 at Long Reef Golf Club on 26th November 2013.
132 participants enjoyed good weather, albeit windy, and the winning fourball was Dave Twycross, Jack Newton, Stephen Rix and Blake Windred. Lauren McAlister of Cancer Council NSW was on hand to accept a cheque of $44K from Mark Howard-Browne and a further $10K was presented to Jack Newton for the furtherance of junior golf development. This year’s event raised funds for Cancer Council NSW osteosarcoma research. This is the most common form of bone cancer which usually affects young children. The researchers from the Bone Research Program at the ANZ Research Institute are working to understand why Vitamin D helps to prevent bone cancers from growing and the money we raised will be directed into this grant and it will make a difference in raising awareness and growing our understanding of this rare cancer. This was a join effort between the Nomads Sydney North and Nomads Sydney Souths club and we convey our heartfelt thanks to the fantastic sponsors and participants. |
