2022 JACK NEWTON KNOCK OUT

Incoming 2023 Captain, Curt Wilson, hands over the Jack Newton Knock Out Trophy to the 2022 Champion, Michael Hodge.

​The final was a tightly contested affair with Michael Hodge beating Ken Adeline on the last hole 34-33.

In the 3rd/4th place contest, Derrick Jones was no match with Peter Hodge, losing 36 - 27.

In the Plate final, Mark Howard-Browne edged out Kevin Rule 34 - 31.

The 2022 Jack Newton Knock Out Competition was well supported with 32 entrants.

Furtherance of Golf  - 2022 MJT National Team Challenge in Toronto, Canada

---

Captain Damon Cornish and Past National President Mark Howard-Browne presented Nomads and Drummond Golf shirts to a contingent of junior golfers on their way to play in the 2022 MJT National Team Challenge in Toronto, Canada. 

As part of our Furtherance of Golf vision all 5 Nomads Clubs and Nomads Golf Australia contributed $12,000 to JNJG and they selected 2 junior golfers from WA, QLD and NSW.

We wish them all the best and Go Team Australia!!!

ANNUAL SYDNEY CLUB CHALLENGE - MAY 2022

Captain of Sydney South, Kent Foulis (left) congratulates and hands over the Sydney Inter Club Challenge Shield to the Captain of Sydney North, Damon Cornish.

Sydney North edged out Sydney South 6.5 to 3.5 and in the overall standings Norths lead 6-4.

PETER HALL - 40 CLUB WINNER

Peter Hall (right) was the Player of the Day scoring a fabulous 40 points off his handicap of 14. At one point he scored 10 consecutive pars. Had he not had a quiet first four holes, he could have scored in the mid 40s.

It was far from quiet in his fourball, after all Kiernan McNeill was there making much more noise than Ryan van der Walt.

This is his 1st 40 Club achievement.

RILEY MILLERS WINS THE PETER O'MALLEY JUNIOR OPEN

The 2022 Peter O'Malley Junior Masters took place this weekend (26/27 March 2022) at Bathurst Golf Club, with more than 200 players registering to take part in the biggest regional Junior Masters event on the JNJG Calendar.

The huge field headed up over the Blue Mountains to the Central Tablelands and fortunately the rain predicted missed Bathurst.
 
As many as seven players were within touching distance of the lead at different stages on Sunday afternoon, before Riley Millers (Avondale) prevailed with a grandstand finish to claim his second JNJG Masters Title in two starts.
 
Local boy Jacob Lamb (Bathurst) and Brij Ingrey (The Australian) started with the overnight lead but couldn't quite reproduce the same on Sunday. Kade Webber (Stonecutters Ridge) was consistent as always to record yet another Top-5 finish, whilst Ryan Cadle (Stonecutters Ridge) and Cameron Jackson (The Lakes) made back nine charges to finish just short.
 
That left Millers and Shashank Koirala (Bonnie Doon) as the last two to fight it out, both three under par for the day which left Koirala holding a one shot lead with just two holes to play. Millers rallied, picking up a clutch birdie on the 17th to tie the lead, before applying the pressure with two great shots down the 18th to about 20 feet below the hole. With the pressure on, Koirala needed to get up and down to have any chance, but Millers didn't even give the 16-year old a chance by rolling in the birdie putt for a five under par 67 and a two shot victory.

Steven Murphy - 1st hole-in-one

Congratulations to Steven Murphy who is the 1st Nomads Sydney North member to score a hole-in-one.

This is what Steven had to say about his spectacular achievement:

Attached is the photo – that’s as good a bend I can get these days with my knees!
 
It was hole 14. Everyone was hitting off the left hand side of the tee box as pin was back right. Thought I would hit it from the other side and take an 8 iron for the 140 meters. Actually managed to get a decent strike (law of averages) and whilst it was in the air Thys Roodt called it and it bounced once, then a second time and then went in.
 
Not sure in the 4 ball who was the most excited!
 
On walking up I remembered that there were inserts in the cup designed so we didn’t have to dig our ball out the bottom of the hole and I suddenly thought that there was a strong chance that it would have just bounced out. Which, considering the amount of noise made, would have resulted in a hefty fine. Fortunately it didn’t.
 
The fact that it happened at a Nomads game made it even more special and the numerous beers afterwards all the more enjoyable!

ZAC KARLSSON SCORES AN IMPRESSIVE 43 POINTS

Zac is a new member only inducted in late 2021.

He is currently studying and he works part-time in the Gordon Golf Club Pro Shop. He must be getting in some practice after work...

JUSTUS STALS JOINS THE 40 CLUB with 41 POINTS

Club Captain, Damon Cornish (left) hands over a "40 Club" cap to Justus Stals who scored a very good 41 points off a handicap of 21 at Mona Vale on 23 January 2022.

On most other days he would have been the Champion of the Day but he was outdone by Zac Karlsson who scored 43 points.

This is his 1st 40 Club achievement.

2022 GAME SCHEDULE

This year we play twice at the following 4 courses: Wakehurst, Bayview, Long Reef and Riverside Oaks. We have a single game at Mona Vale, Richmond (for the 1st time) and The Springs

​In May Souths will be hosting the 11th North v South Club Challenge at Macquarie Links.

The 12th Nomads National Tournament will be hosted by Brisbane and this will be at Kooralbyn Golf Resort from 28-30 October 2022.
