FURTHERANCE OF GOLF 2024
Captain Rouan Snyman announced, at Wakehurst Golf Club on Sunday 17th March 2024, that the Nomads Sydney North Scholarship Recipients for 2024 were Zoe Arcus and Liam Jordan.
Each year, in conjunction with the General Manager of Jack Newton Junior Golf, Dale Hughes, deserving juniors are identified and are put forward by JNJG to the Nomads Sydney North Committee for consideration.
On Sunday 17 March 2024, at Wakehurst Golf Club, Sydney North Captain, Rouan Snyman, was pleased to announce that the Jack Newton Junior Golf Scholarship recipients for 2024 were Zoe Arcus and Liam Jordan. Unfortunately, Liam didn't play in the monthly game as he had to play his Pennants match at Manly Golf Club on the same morning.
A cheque of $4,000 was handed over to JNJG to administer, on behalf of Zoe and Liam, and this will be used to assist them in meeting some of the costs in getting to tournaments around NSW. It was pleasing to see their Dads' Matt Arcus and Paul Jordan at the presentation.
Zoe is a member of Cromer Golf Club and her current handicap is +2.8. She is for the 2nd year in the JNJG Development Squad and prior to that was in the JNJG Metro Academy. Her best results include the Winner of Sydney Week of Golf 2024 shooting even par, Winner of the 2024 Webex Junior Players Series in the Hunter Valley and the Winner of the 14/15 Girls Peter O’Malley Junior Masters at Bathurst GC.
Her goals are to improve her consistency and short game, possibly obtain a US College Golf Scholarship and eventually play Ladies professional Golf.
Zoe is in Year 12 at Oxford Grammar and besides golf she has excelled at basketball, cross country, swimming and athletics where she was ranked 2nd in State and holds the School record.
Liam has been playing golf for 3.5 years and is a member of Manly GC and Wakehurst GC. He is currently playing off 1 and has been a member of the Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) Sydney North Academy for the last 2 years. Some of Liam’s notable tournament results include 4th in the 14/15yo age group in the 2024 JNJG Sydney Week of Golf, 2nd overall at the 2023 JNJG Brett Ogle Junior Masters and 2nd in the U16s at the 2023 Faldo Series.
Liam played in his first JNJG tournament in 2021, when he was 12, at Shelly Beach, and has travelled to many tournaments around the State since then, including Goulburn, Byron Bay, Batemans Bay, Wagga Wagga and Bathurst. Liam is also involved in surf lifesaving, as both a volunteer and competitor, at Manly LSC. As well as representing his school for golf, Liam has also represented his school at NSW State level as part of the school water polo team and he has also represented his school at the NSW State swimming championships for the past 5 years.
Zoe and Liam, we look forward to your development with JNJG and hope you have a lot of fun while growing in the game of golf.
